It is recommended not drinking these teas when you have a cold or flu, perhaps maybe with the exception of the Antibiotic tea and even that depending on how you feel. (This stands in general for medicinal herbal teas, unless specifically designed for a cold or flu). These teas tend to bring out toxins, so you don't want to burden your body any more when it is fighting a cold. The human body uses up a lot of energy when detoxing. When you have a cold or flu, your body needs the energy to fight the virus. No need to make it any harder than it is.

AntibioticThis tea is good for soothing lingering cough after a cold. This tea has also a nice flavour and aroma, unlike other herbal tea flavours.
An intern of mine had five severe colds during one winter. When she started working with us she would get uncontrollable caught attacks. Two to three weeks on this tea drinking as a tonic throughout the day, got rid of her cough entirely. Recommended use - two to four weeks for noticeable effects depending on strength of your symptoms. When your symptoms go away, continue to use it for a few more days. KidneyThis tea is quite effective. Kidneys are a delicate organ and need to be cared for regularly. A lot of toxins go through them every day, so showing some kindness once in a while, is very wise, especially for those folks going through detox diets. When the detox occurs in the body, kidneys get loaded with toxins. Some naturopaths recommend doing a kidney flush before starting a detox, so they don't get overloaded. In any case, if you have completed a detox for a month, it's about time to care for your kidneys. This tea will provide that care.
The tea has a bit of a bitter flavour, but it's certainly worth it. Some folks might get a headache too, which is a sign of detoxification. (I haven't figured out which herb causes the headache, but we are working on it). The headache goes area shortly after the tea is no longer used. Recommended use - three to four weeks for noticeable effects. |
LiverThis tea has a slightly bitter flavour, but not as bitter as the Kidney tea.
If you are using this tea or the rest of our ALIKES line teas, try to combine with a clean diet. It doesn't make sense to eat meat, dairy or greasy foods and expect your liver to detox simply by using this tea. In order for the liver to detox, or any other organ for that matter, you have got to give it a break. Just like the body needs rest when you get sick, so does the liver in order to detox. The energy needs to be spent on detoxification and not in digesting heavy foods. Recommended use - three to four weeks for noticeable effects. E-TeaThere is various written material on the Essiac tea and the history of Rene Caisse who used it to help people get well from their illnesses. Essiac is her last name spelled backwards. It is believed that the original tea formula given to Rene Caisse by the first nations was made of eight ingredients. She indicated only four herbs in her formula that she was forced to disclose in a court of law. We have put together a tea with eight herbs of what we think might be the original formula. The correct preparation for this tea to get all the benefits the herbs have to offer is quite laborious. I think the second enemy or our modern era in the epidemic of "food with less nutrition" is "lack of time" and "stress". If you simply boil these herbs as per instructions on our label, you would still get some benefit.
Recommended use - three to four weeks for noticeable effects. |
ImmuneEverybody is looking to boost their immune system these days. There are lots of formulas available on the market and they are all very good. You need to do your homework to figure out which formula might suit you best. A word of suggestion - use herbal teas only one at a time. It is not recommended using two different teas at once, because some herbs may have synergistic effects when combined, that you need to be aware of. If you want to try several of them, I recommend using the kidney and liver tea first and then the immune tea.
Recommended use - three to four weeks for noticeable effects. SchizandraA good friend of mine recommended this tea. She has been in the world of healthy living for many decades, so I trust her opinion and we decided to include it in our ALIKES line. A Google search on benefits of Schizandra will indicate great benefits related to the immune system, stress reduction and mood improvements. For some reason I was finding a lot of reference to benefits for man (at least at the time when I ran the search). The descriptions were fairly generic, so I couldn't figure out why exactly. Although, most of our customers who bought this tea when we used to run our cafe were women. You have to do your own research to figure out how this tea can be helpful to you.
A word of caution, this tea has a strong sour bitter flavour. Even though we have mixed it with a couple of other herbs to reduce the sourness, I personally find it a bit strong. You might want to dilute it if necessary. On there other hand, I had some customers who loved the flavour so much, they just kept buying it and wouldn't even look at anything else. Recommended use - three to four weeks for noticeable effects. |
