Food Strategist! We are hiring a Baker/Prep-Cook/Front-of-House Server
About Us
Nut Tree Cafe is an organic vegan café in North Vancouver. We are geared towards health and our meals take into consideration certain aspects of nutrition that help our bodies sustain themselves when fed properly. Our goal is to provide healthy nutritious meals free of chemicals and preservatives.
We Want You!
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our family. We are looking for somebody who is interested in healthy plant-based food preparation and customer service in our cafe, and who is also interested in helping us grow the company through marketing strategy.
You will learn about the ins and outs of running a healthy plant-based food operation, and also be involved as we launch our wholesale product division and grow as an organization. This is an ideal position for a new graduate from a holistic/nutrition school, who is interested in not just plant-based food preparation and creation, but also face-to-face interaction with customers, healthy living, healthy eating, and marketing.
You will have the opportunity to grow with us and expand your career, as we are looking for somebody who wants to help us achieve our goal of creating more healthy plant-based options for all Vancouverites. You will be a part of our dreaming and planning sessions. You will have the opportunity to write, learn and share your healthy living/eating ideas with our community.
Your time will be split between food preparation (est. 90%), and marketing (est. 10%).
Responsibilities
Food Preparation
Skills and Qualifications
Ideally, you have prep-cook experience with a minimum of 1 year work experience in the food industry. Experience or education in communications is nice, but not required.
We are also looking someone with the following traits:
Detail oriented, clean and organized. Ability to learn quickly. Effective communication skills. Presentable. Honest and trustworthy, respectful, flexible and can demonstrate sound work ethics. Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity. Able to maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume. Able to maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality. Has an understanding of computer operated POS systems, inventory and functions. Holds Food Safe 1 certificate at minimum and have a “Food safe” attitude. Working conditions
The position may be required to work after hours with advance notice. May be required to perform inventory counts or work at alternate locations for special events.
Physical requirements
During your food preparation duties, you may have to spend long hours standing while operating equipment, which can cause muscle strain. The position will also require lifting of stock and items when performing inventory counts and verifying order amounts.

- Prepare pastries with Vegan/Gluten-free ingredients.
- Coordinate with Chef and Manager to ensure fresh ingredients are available when needed.
- Assist Chef with preparation of breakfast and lunch meals soups, salads and other daily specials.
- Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines, for all food prepared in the kitchens.
- Follow café operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security.
- Create and execute content for social media other marketing materials.
